Kid Friendly tours > Tuscan Towns and Countryside

The tour starts with a visit to the well-preserved medieval town of San Gimignano, called the medieval Manhattan of Tuscany, with its stately stone towers, it is a big hit with kids. In the 13th century, it was a thriving commercial center, well-positioned on the trade and pilgrim routes between the Alps and southern Italy. The noble families built stone tower-houses, competing with each other for the most impressive, and also to defend themselves against invasions. Start your explorations in the center of town, at the Palazzo Communale (Palazzo del Popolo). Climb the Torre Grossa (fat tower), the biggest tower of all, for a view of the Tuscan countryside. As you walk through the13th century Palazzo Communale, don't miss the medieval crests in the courtyard and a really beautiful jousting knight on horseback.

Next a drive through the Chianti region, to the second important city in Tuscany, Siena. Siena also has a fantastic bell tower that every one would love climbing, it gives you a wonderful overview of this walled medieval city and burns off a lot of steam.

Younger children will be amused for hours chasing the pigeons in the main square, Campo, while their parents take a leisurely coffee or a glass of wine at the tables that border the square.

Before driving back to the ship, you have to see the Pinocchio Park. Long before Walt Disney, Pinocchio was a popular story in Italy, written by Carlo Collodi in 1881. Younger kids will love the charming, old-fashioned Pinocchio Park in the small town of Collodi, near Florence. The park has statues and fountains of all the Pinocchio characters, and a delightful puppet show with all the familiar characters. (Never mind that the puppet show is in Italian.)

Your driver/guide will pick you up from the port in the morning and will take you back to the dock in the afternoon.
