Rome is considered the birthplace of the Baroque. It is not surprising that a walk though the city permits the visitors to trace the development of this style in architecture. Churches, fountains, and palaces designed by Borromini and Bernini, the two most important architects of the 16th century are visible all over the city. The tour concludes with a visit to the gorgeous Borghese Gallery where the essence of the Roman Baroque can be seen in Bernini’s splendid sculptures and in the extensive collection of works by the painter Caravaggio.

2) Ancient Rome - Daily walking tour

In the early days of the Roman empire, Titus Livius, a writer later known as Livy, completed the first epic history of Rome. He sets the story seven hundred years prior to his own birth, on a hill above the bend of the Tiber river, and this is also where our tour begins. It continues up to the Palatine hill, where the history of Rome start then a walk through the Roman Forum, once the political, religious and social center of the city, ending of course with a visit to the Coliseum, a most important symbol and architectural artifact of the ancient world. The remains of Roman glory serve as testimony and a reminder of the city’s great past.

3) Jewish Rome - Daily walking tour

The Jewish people have inhabited Rome since 200 B.C.E, when the Roman general Pompey brought them to the city as slaves after the Emperor Titus destroyed the Temple in Jerusalem, so for twenty-three centuries. Like other Jews, Roman Jews have maintained their religion, culture, and food, and actually speak a different Italian dialect. The tour guide will lead you through the Roman Forum and the Coliseum, by the end of the tour, you will also visit the church of St Peter's in chains, the home of the famous statue of Michaelangelo, Moses. A walk through the former Jewish Ghetto, a visit to the main synagogue. In the afternoon you will visit the Vatican, where will have the opportunity to enhance your understanding of the similarities and differences between Judaism and Christianity. First, we will go back to ancient Jewish Rome by exploring the Jewish Room in the Vatican, which is full of sacred Jewish art, writing and symbols. Following on, you'll see the pagan sculpture that personally influenced the great Michelangelo himself! We will continue to stroll through the gallery of Candelabra, Tapestries and Map rooms to the Raphael Rooms, before getting to the grand finale - the amazing Sistine Chapel. The Popes took a serious interest in Hebrew and the Old Testament, Hebrew was important and considered sacred language. On our tour you will see and learn many factual secrets and curiosities that took place in the Vatican, with the Popes and their great artists Michelangelo and Raphael, and the Jews of Rome.
