The Tour
Trace the profound, two-thousand-year heritage of Europe’s oldest continuous Jewish community on an intimate private journey through the heart of the Eternal City. Accompanied by your licensed personal guide, you will delve into centuries of resilience, faith, and culture, beginning at the Church of Saint Peter in Chains to stand before Michelangelo’s celebrated marble sculpture of Moses, renowned for its extraordinary emotional intensity and lifelike detail.
From there, your guide leads you into the historic Roman Ghetto, a picturesque yet deeply storied neighborhood where Roman Jewish life has flourished for more than five centuries. As you stroll through cobblestone lanes lined with ancient Roman porticos and welcoming traditional bakeries, you will uncover the community’s evolution from the days of the Roman Empire through the Renaissance and into modern times. You will explore the monumental Great Synagogue and the Jewish Museum of Rome, discovering rare liturgical artifacts, ancient textiles, and personal stories that illuminate the distinct customs and culinary traditions of the Roman Jewish community.
The walk continues toward the scenic banks of the Tiber River, exploring the historic quarters where early Jewish merchants and citizens first settled in classical times.
