After you are greeted at your hotel in Naples, Sorrento, or the Amalfi Coast, you will begin your day by heading to Herculaneum, a renowned seaside resort once visited by Roman aristocrats for their summer retreats, which was completely buried by the lava and mudflow from the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Following your exploration of this historic site, you will head to a private wine estate located at the foot of Mount Vesuvius for a relaxing afternoon. You will be given a guided tour of the vineyards and enjoy lunch in a beautiful terraced garden to taste specialties of the Campania region, including bruschetta, salami, provolone cheese, spaghetti with cherry tomatoes, and the pastiera napoletana ricotta and corn pie. This meal will be accompanied by a tasting of five different local Lacryma Christi wines, including white, red, and rosé, followed by a sparkling spumante and a distilled apricot liqueur. Your journey concludes at the archaeological site of Pompeii, the ancient city whose ruins were preserved by the volcanic eruption that devastated it in 79 AD. You will have a couple of hours to explore the city and see its preserved ruins before heading back to your hotel in the early evening.
